Sleep Technology Portland ORBeing tired all the time is no fun, we understand completely. At Hunter Dental Care, we lead the fight against poor sleep by adopting the latest in proven sleep technology. We enjoy improving the lives of our patients by providing them with solutions to their sleep apnea issues at a great value to them. Our goal is to properly diagnose your sleep issue so that we can zero-in our treatment method and stop the problem at its source. To do this we use the Eccovision Acoustic Pharyngometer and Rhinometer. Obstructive Sleep Apnea Affects MillionsIf you wake up after a 7-8 hour sleep still tired, or if you have been told you snore there is a good chance that you suffer from obstructive sleep apnea. This condition can severely impact your life in a negative way and has to do with your airways collapsing multiple times while you sleep. Because you can't get the air that you need when you sleep, you end up waking up multiple times per night instead of drifting into deeper REM sleep cycles. What is Eccovision? The Eccovision Acoustic Diagnostic Imaging System is a product that is made by Sleep Group Solutions (SGS). SGS is a company dedicated to the treatment, education, and training of dental and medical sleep medicine solutions. SGS saw that the dental industry was in a perfect position to help those with sleep issues and decided to entrust our industry with its products. They did this knowing that we had the unique, in-depth education and expertise to treat issues like sleep apnea. SGS designed the Eccovision products to be easily incorporated into our office so that we would be able to more accurately diagnose and treat sleep issues. What is the Acoustic Pharyngometer and Rhinometer? The pharyngometer and rhinometer is a device that allows us to map out our patients' airways to determine how susceptible to obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) they may be. This device uses sound waves to determine the measurements that it gives us, which means that this piece of technology offers our patients a non-invasive testing method. The rhinometer measures the airways in the nasal cavities and the pharyngometer measures the oral airways. This system has been cleared by the FDA as a highly effective method to determine the scope and severity of airway collapse relating to sleep and snoring-related breathing issues. Truly Superior MethodBecause this method of airway testing is completely non-invasive, it tends to be a much more pleasant testing method. One of the more popular alternative testing methods is the endoscope, which is essentially a camera that is attached to a long, flexible cord. To test your airways with an endoscope. First, the airways must be numbed to avoid extreme discomfort. Once the airways (nose/throat) are numbed the endoscope is sent into the nose and slowly worked down a nostril while the professional checks for visual signs of potential for airway obstruction. Endoscopy does not provide a pleasant procedure. The Eccovision Acoustic Pharyngometer and Rhinometer offer a truly superior method of airway testing that is both more accurate and more comfortable than an endoscope. At Hunter Dental Care we believe in making every visit to our office a comfortable one, and the Eccovision Acoustic testing method allows us to do just that.
